Nakata Museum of Art "Japanese Climate and Oil Painting - Collection of Japanese Modern Paintings
Since the Meiji period (1868-1912), when oil paintings were introduced from the West, Japanese painters have built the history of modern Western-style painting while seeking their own expression. Ryuzaburo Umehara studied painting from Chu Asai and became an apprentice in the studio of Renoir in Paris. This exhibition introduces the works of these pioneers, who painted Japanese landscapes, figures, and still lifes from a variety of perspectives.
